Last month, we contacted our supporters about the Pesticide Collaboration’s new campaign, which is calling for a national ban on the use of pesticides in urban areas.
We have now had over 100 councillors sign on to our letter to the UK Government, demonstrating that there is widespread support from local authorities for a national ban.
As the campaign ramps up, we are working with parliamentarians to make sure this is on the political agenda in Westminster.
Caroline Lucas MP has tabled an Early Day Motion in parliament, calling for a phase-out of the use of pesticides in our villages, towns and cities. You can read the motion here.
Early Day Motions (EDMs) are used by MPs in the House of Commons to draw attention to a particular issue, event or campaign. Other MPs can show their support for an EDM by adding their own signature to it.
It is therefore crucial that MPs hear about this motion and sign on to it. We know that there is support for a national ban on urban pesticides in parliament, and we need to have as many MPs as possible publicly pledging their support.
This is a vital next step in building on the incredible work of the Pesticide-Free Towns campaigners.
Will you write to your MP to ask them to support this motion?
